Austin’s known for its great food and music. We discovered new place (for us, at least) that you really need to check out. My son Kris suggested Max’s Wine Dive so we met him for drinks and dinner after work on Friday. Max’s is definitely Austintatious! Funky and trendy but it supports an excellent wine and bubbles list and some great, although unusual, menu items. We started with a happy hour special of beer battered Calamari - it was some of the best we’ve ever tasted. I went for the Buffalo Sliders for dinner, Mr. Bubblehead had the Wild Boar Pasta (delectably rich) and Kris had the Damn. . . Yankee Pot Roast. That was definitely the most outstanding dish at our table, although they were all great. The pot roast dish consisted of 23 Texas-raised Kobe beef cheeks slowly braised and served with roasted root vegetables, mushrooms and Yorkshire pudding - all swimming in a sumptuous red wine braising jus. (I can’t take credit for that description - I stole if from the menu!) Mashed potatoes were among the root vegetables. My son let us have some bites and my mouth is watering as I remember it.
Our waiter, Aaron, was fun and attentive.
Brandon was working behind the bar but I wanted a photo of the great Max’s t-shirt he had on. Thanks Aaron and Brandon for a nice evening at Max’s and thanks to Kris for suggesting we try someplace we’ve never been before.
One thing for sure…we’ll be back. - Mrs. Bubblehead
